•PROCEDURE:

WHEN SHIPPING YOUR EQUIPMENT TO ME FOR REPAIR, PLEASE INCLUDE A NOTE WITH YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION AND A BRIEF EXPLAINATION OF THE PROBLEM POSED BY THE ITEM YOUR SENDING.

AFTER I RECEIVE THE EQUIPMENT, IT IS PLACED IN LINE FOR IT'S TURN AT APPRAISAL. DEPENDING UPON HOW MANY JOBS ARE AHEAD OF IT IN LINE, THE APPRAISAL PROCESS CAN TAKE ANYWHERE FROM A COUPLE OF DAYS TO A COUPLE OF WEEKS. WHEN IT'S TURN ARRIVES, AND THE INSPECTION IS COMPLETED, I WILL CALL, EMAIL, OR SEND A POST CARD NOTIFYING YOU OF THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS, AND THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS.

I PREFER TO CALL IF POSSIBLE, SO AGAIN, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION WHEN SHIPPING YOUR ITEM.

AFTER I HAVE CONTACTED YOU, AND YOU TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO DO (OPTIONS INCLUDE: REPAIR IT, JUNK IT, AND SEND IT BACK "AS IS" - RETURN SHIPPING AT CUSTOMERS EXPENSE), AND ASSUMING YOU CHOOSE TO REPAIR IT, I WILL REQUIRE PAYMENT BEFORE ACTUALLY STARTING THE REPAIR PROCESS.

TO MOST CUSTOMERS I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS "PAYMENT IN ADVANCE" POLICY, AS UNFORTUNATELY, IT HAS BECOME A REQUIREMENT DUE TO PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS WHO WOULD AUTHORIZE REPAIRS, AND THEN NEVER PAY FOR THEM. IN INSTANCES INVOLVING NON-PAYMENT (OVER A MINIMUM 6 MONTH PERIOD) I AM FORCED TO SELL THE EQUIPMENT IN QUESTION IN ORDER TO RECOVER MY TIME AND PARTS EXPENSES. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, BUT I WOULD RATHER WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH THE CUSTOMER THAN TO HAVE THEM LOSE THEIR EQUIPMENT - ESPECIALLY WHEN FAMILY HEIRLOOMS ARE INVOLVED.

WHEN REPAIRS ARE AUTHORIZED, AND I RECIEVE A CUSTOMERS CAMERA, BUT THEN NEVER RECEIVE PAYMENT OR FURTHER CONTACT, I CONSIDER THE EQUIPMENT "ABANDONED" - PLEASE REFER TO "ABANDONED ITEMS" SECTION OF THIS PAGE FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

•BATTERY CONVERSION:

ON KONICA SLRs, AND SOME OF THE RANGEFINDERS BUILT BEFORE 1979, KONICA USED MERCURY BATTERIES - EITHER 1 OR 2 CELLS (EPX 625s AND EPX 675s) AT 1.35 VOLTS. THESE ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN THE U.S. AND CANADA. IF YOU USE REPLACEMENT SILVER OXIDE, ZINC AIR, OR ALKALINE 1.5 VOLT BATTERIES, YOUR METER READINGS WILL BE OFF BY 1 TO 3 STOPS, CAUSING YOUR PICTURES TO BE OVER-EXPOSED. THE CAMERA SHOULD UNDERGO A "BATTERY CONVERSION" AND BE RE-CALIBRATED FOR THE HIGHER VOLTAGE TO MAKE THE METER READ CORRECTLY, AND TO HAVE YOUR PICTURES TURN OUT RIGHT. •BATTERY COMPENSATION:

IF YOU ARE IN A BIND, YOU CAN USE THE HIGHER VOLTAGE BATTERIES FOR A WHILE WITHOUT DAMAGING YOUR CAMERA. HOWEVER, FOR YOUR PICTURES TO TURN OUT RIGHT, YOU WILL HAVE TO COMPENSATE BY TAKING YOUR FILM SPEED SETTING ON THE CAMERA AND REDUCING IT BY 1/2. FOR EXAMPLE: FOR 400 SPEED FILM, SET THE ASA AT 200. THIS WILL GET YOU WITHIN ONE STOP OF HAVING THE CORRECT EXPOSURE.

IF YOU ARE USING SLIDE FILM, I RECOMMEND BATTERY CONVERSION TO BE ACCURATE.

•T-3, A-3, & NT-3 = HAVE BATTERY COMPARTMENT, APERTURE CONTROL, AND METER TRAP PROBLEMS.
•T-4, & TC = HAVE METER GROUND PROBLEMS.
•FT-1 = HAS FILM GUIDE PAD, AND BATTERY COMPARTMENT PROBLEMS.
•FC-1, & FP-1 = HAVE RE-WIND KNOB PROBLEMS.
•FS-1 = HAS MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD AND SHUTTER MOTOR PROBLEMS.

THE PROBLEMS LISTED FOR CAMERAS OTHER THAN THE FS-1 & TC-X ARE EASILY FIXED. THEY GENERALLY REPRESENT AGE RELATED INCIDENCE RATHER THAN DEFECTS, AND ARE USUALLY OF NO GREAT CONCERN. THESE PROBLEMS IN NO WAY EFFECT MY HIGH REGARD FOR MOST ALL OF KONICA'S MODELS. BASED ON MY REPAIR EXPERIENCES I HAVE INCLUDED A SUGGESTED "DEPENDABILITY RATING" FOR EACH MODEL. •WARRANTY ON REPAIRS:

I WARRANTY MY REPAIR WORK FOR 6 MONTHS. THIS WARRANTY INCLUDES ALL ITEMS THAT I REPLACED, REPAIRED, OR ADJUSTED. NOT INCLUDED IN THE 6 MONTH REPAIR WARRANTY ARE ANY PARTS THAT WERE NOT BROKEN AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR, AND ANY DAMAGE FROM WATER, IMPACT, IMPROPER BATTERY USE, IMPROPER FLASH USE, SAND, TAMPERING, PHYSICAL ABUSE OF ANY KIND, AND SO ON.

IF CAMERAS, LENSES, OR ACCESSORIES ARE SENT TO ME, AND I AM UNABLE (FOR 6 MONTHS) TO GET A RESPONSE (FROM THE PARTY THAT SENT IT), AS TO WHAT TO DO WITH IT - I CONSIDER THE ITEM "ABANDONED" (OR MAYBE IT WAS A GIFT?). WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE ITEM IS EITHER JUNKED, RE-BUILT, PARTED OUT, OR SOLD.

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS ANOTHER STRICT POLICY THAT I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO EMPLOY AFTER HAVING ACCUMULATED MORE EQUIPMENT THAN I HAVE ROOM TO STORE. A COURTESY CALL GOES A LONG WAY IN THIS REGARD.
